I will look for this book, I haven’t read espionage nonfiction and I think I will like it a lot, especially since Macintynte seems to have a great writing style.

Thanks, Gabby. I almost called this post something like: A Thriller for People Who Don’t Read Thrillers, because in fiction, they’re not my favorite genre.

But “The Siege” was a great nonfiction story, the kind of book I do like. I keep thinking about that gerbil at the Montessori school racing around its wheel as gunfire raged during the hostage rescue!

Great review! I especially loved "the sublimely named town of Barking."

Ben Macintyte is one of my go-to writers when I want a well-researched exposé of how things were done in the old days. He has or is given access to original research material few writers can enjoy, and he puts his words into sentences that are engaging, entertaining, and at times, horrifying. But they are always quite readable.

I will seek out this one, too!
