I was forced to read Henry James in high school and again in college. I think Mark Twain put it best: "The problem with Henry is he has a tendency to chew more than he bit off."

Thanks, Kristin! I did something similar at my old newspaper, where I started a series about classics called A Classic Reconsidered. Its popularity helped to inspire me to try something similar here with a slightly broader focus--not just on classics but on good books that are worth reading even if they haven't attained "classic" status.

Great idea, I hope many readers appreciate this. There’s a lot of good writing out there, so it’s hard to understand the choices the main stream media are making with what they review. I wonder if they are pressured by the big 5, or if the reviewers have greatly lowered the bar for some reason.
